UV LIGHTS

Homes and buildings are built today to be more energy efficient. They are built with tighter fitting windows to seal out drafts and more insulation to cut down on utility bills.  However, by making a more energy efficient home we have sealed out fresh air and trapped moisture inside.  Our inside air has become unhealthy to breathe and provides breeding conditions for mildew and other microorganisms.  These organisms irritate allergies, causing scratchy throats, itchy eyes and breathing ailments.

We can improve indoor air quality, by bringing in fresh air into your home by utilizing an Energy Recovery Ventilator (ERV), we can use media filter to clean the air and sanitize and clean your duct system. This will improve your indoor air quality. But to take your indoor air quality one step further you can utilize Ultraviolet Lights (UV). You may be familiar with the UV lights that are used by doctors and dentists to sterilize instruments.

The sun offers us the greatest amount of UV light. The sun bleaches out fabrics and causes our wood lawn furniture and siding to gray or fade. We protect ourselves form these rays with sunglasses and sunscreens.  Why not use UV rays to help to eliminate microorganisms in your home? UV waves penetrate the walls of cells and alter the DNA of the organism, making it impossible for it to reproduce.  The UV light is installed inside your air handler facing the coil.  The light shines on the coil 24 hours a day killing numerous allergens on the coil, inside the drain pan and on any insulation.  A UV light, combined with a good filtration system will create a vast improvement in your indoor air quality.
